Codez Academy empowering young people in Wales to code

by Startacus Admin
Codez Academy understands that computer science has become as relevant a subject as Maths and
English. Here's how they aim to empower the young people of Wales to embrace the world of code and coding.
While most ICT courses give a basic overview on computer use, Codez Academy's goal is to really get into the heart of it and teach young people how to build computer programmes, not just how to use them. Their mission, to give young people the tools they need to step forward into the world of coding and become a creator, not just a consumer.
Dean Jenkins founded Codez Academy in 2015 after sharing his coding knowledge with a 8 year old student. This was after facing his own challenges within education and employment due to a lack of understanding of his dyslexia and dyscalculia. Past students at Codez Academy have gone on to create geofilters for Snapchat which have been used by the likes of Beyonce, Ed Sheeran and 78.3million others.
To demonstrate its commitment to diversity, Dean has also recently welcomed a part-time autistic member to its team to help with marketing activities.
As an example, two students joined the Cardiff based digital consultancy firm Mobilise Cloud after receiving training and attending Codez Academy’s Get Into Digital course, in collaboration with the Prince’s Trust.
The course them the opportunity to learn about design their own webpages, learn film-making and front end developing/coding skills using HTML & CSS. They have also gone on to become key members of the Mobile Cloud team, having already developed a voice based bot system as a pilot for Cardiff Council, as to what can be placed in the city’s recycling bins.
Codez Academy are now looking for new students aged 16-30 for the Get Into Digital Course.
