Cloak — Incognito Mode for Real Life

by Startacus Admin
Have you ever been out-and-about and bumped into somebody you would rather not have? Be it 'one of the exes, a co-worker or that guy that always wants to stop and talk'. Let’s face it, it has happened to all of us. Well that could become a thing of the past thanks to Cloak. We at Startacus are rather intrigued by this notion.
There are plenty of location based apps out there, that connect you to your contacts with the idea of meeting up with them. Cloak is something entirely different, it is the antisocial network created by programmer Brian Moore and the former Creative Director of viral news site Buzzfeed, Chris Baker.
So what is it and what does it do? It is a free app that is currently available (on iTunes) – it scrapes Instagram and Foursquare to let you know where your ‘friends’ are at all times so that you don’t have to run into anyone you rather wouldn’t.
The popularity of such ‘secretive’ apps is on the rise. Snapchat - which deletes videos and photographs seconds after they are viewed – and Secret – which broadcasts messages anonymously are among others available.
This app has received plenty of attention since first making an apprearance – it has been featured on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, CNN, TIME magazine, the Wall Street Journal and many others. Here at Startacus, we just thought we would highlight it for anybody that may have missed it.
Cloak is still in its early stages so there are quite a few kinks still to be worked out, but the good news on the horizon is that they are currently in talks with social media mammoth Facebook to develop app intergration which would potentially increase the apps effectiveness 10 fold!
Definately one to look out for!

PS. don’t worry, startacus will never ‘cloak’ you.. we promise!
