Chatloop - making web browsing social

by Startacus Admin
The lowdown on Manchester based startup Chatloop and its mission to transform social media, giving you the power to start conversations on any website.
The internet is a social place. That’s not always for the best, but let’s put that aside for the moment! From forums to social media to the little Q&A section on Amazon, people on the internet like to interact with each other, ask questions, share insights and opinions, and generally stay in touch with the world. But this is, of course, limited to those places where a website has dedicated space to such communication. What if it were possible to ask questions and make comments pretty much wherever you wanted?
Manchester-based ‘social media disrupter’ startup Chatloop is looking to reinvent the way people browse the internet. They want to do this with their platform that allows people to start conversations anywhere on the internet, turning any website into a social experience. This might come in the form of browsing an online shop and starting a conversation to find out from someone who owns the product you’re looking at whether it’s worth the purchase, or sharing your support for a football match on a streaming platform, or perhaps connecting with other tourists travelling to the same place or staying in the same hotel, etc.
The platform works independently from websites, meaning that you are not restricted to only sites that have partnered with the startup or purchased an API - you can drop ‘Loops’ anywhere, on any webpage, and other Chatloop users can see them. The Chatloop app itself is ad-free, and will show you trending topics, popular Loops, and content related to only the kinds of things that you have told it you’re interested in. The app also uses biometric facial identification to make sure that everyone posting is real, so you aren’t discussing fashion with a bot trying to convince you to invest in crypto.
In October, Chatloop announced that they had raised £1 million in funding, and were making the move to their new home in Huckletree’s flex space in the Express Building in Ancoats.
With the consistent interest in connecting and communicating with others online, we look forward to seeing how Chatloop grows.
