BatteryCheck - using AI to improve battery usage

by Startacus Admin
BatteryCheck is a Prague-based SaaS startup that's using AI to help us get more out of our batteries
Batteries are about to become a lot more important in our lives. Not the kind you put in the TV remote, or in your phone, or in your drone, but the kind that go in the electric cars that we will all eventually have, and the kind that stores all of the energy collected by renewable energy sources like solar and wind power.
Batteries themselves need to improve drastically in the future, not least of all because of the very human cost of mining the cobalt that goes into lithium-ion batteries. But until we have drastically better batteries, we need to better understand the life of those we have, and how to get the most out of them.
Prague-based software-as-a-service startup BatteryCheck was founded for that purpose, and is implementing artificial intelligence to help users understand their battery usage, determine just how well it is performing, and know when it will check out for the last time.
This artificial intelligence will calculate optimal usage in order to prolong battery life to its fullest extent, reducing e-waste. This will be handy and money-saving for electric vehicle owners, but it will be vital to power companies storing renewable energy and to any other businesses that may use banks of batteries, relying on every one to keep working. AI is important for this in large part due to how batteries will perform differently in different environments, and of course different types of battery will perform differently, and so the AI can adapt its understanding to these situations.
BatteryCheck uses only the cloud, meaning there is no hardware to set up on the customer side, and the software is easily integrated into their existing systems. It will be up and running, providing recommendations and alerts in no time.
As of this month, BatteryCheck has 3 commercial customers and is in talks with 15 others, and is still pre-revenue; however, when batteries are being thrown out with 80% capacity remaining, a system that allows people to get every last bit of efficiency out of what stacks up to be pretty expensive hardware, we can see this SaaS startup becoming widely adopted.
