Artomatix uses AI to help 3D artists create

Artomatix - The Dublin based startup that's using AI to help 3D artists create...

If you are at all familiar with 3D modelling and design, you will know that many parts of the process, from start to finish, are tedious and repetitive. Imagine how much work could be done if this was one of those areas that incorporated AI.
You’ll be unsurprised to read that Dublin-based startup Artomatix has created a platform that does just that.
ArtEngine automates time-consuming, repetitive texture and material processes so that the workflow can speed up without loss of quality. The platform has six modules to improve textures, convert them, fix them, and apply them intelligently and quickly.
Clean up scans and make them ready for use; convert photographs into high quality materials; fix defects and increase resolution of lower quality materials to make them brand new again; texture segmentation uses a neural network to automate masking; paint directly onto your model for specificity without the time consumption; and let the AI search through your entire material library, looking at the content itself to find the kind of textures you are looking for, circumventing the difficulties of bad naming conventions.
In 2015, NVIDIA awarded Artomatix $100,000 along with the title of ‘Most Promising Startup’. That began a fundraising journey that currently stands at €2.7m, which they are using to accelerate worldwide market delivery.
Games are becoming increasingly realistic, the process to make them so increasingly time-consuming, and films are incorporating more and more CGI - a product like this, that eases the processes involved, could become heavily relied upon going forward.
