Arckit Set to Build on Early Success with Model Crowdfunding Campaign

by Startacus Admin

In our minds, models of buildings or cities are things that belong in a Bond villain’s lair, or the office of some corporate elite, its pinstriped owner wandering around it
talking into a headset whist swinging a golf club (don’t pretend you’re not picturing it too!)...
Anyway, now Arckit allows anyone to build a DIY 3D model of their dream home, street, or even city, without being chased down by James Bond.
Developed by Irish architect Damien Murtagh, Arckit originated from his need to be able to put together 3D models of his designs quickly, easily, and inexpensively, as he found existing methods too costly. Using modular components that simply click together, Arckit allows architects to stick to the time tested process of creating physical models for their clients, but quicker and cheaper (and reusable).
But Arckit isn’t just for architects. Part of the company’s mission is to use their system to aid in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Maths) learning. Arckit Education was designed with that in mind. A series of interactive courses, this programme was designed for teachers and students as a way to explore the world of architecture, and as a way of teaching STEM/STEAM skills and principles.
These education courses come in two shapes: a 10-week lesson plan or a short challenge-based course for pop-ups and workshops. The longer educational course covers the whole process from design and planning, to CAD development, to the physical model building.
The third aim of Arckit is simply to be fun. The modular ‘click and connect’ functionality of the product is reminiscent of Lego, and it can be a fun toy as much as an educational tool. Children love to build, and with kits for building small houses to those for much larger constructions, children (and adults) can release their creativity (and then slap Arckitexture stickers on that creativity!).
Arckit is currently just over €22,000 in to their €30,000 goal on Kickstarter (with 15 days left) to launch Arckit Cityscape, Masterplan, and Masterplan Pro, allowing anyone to create neighbourhoods, public spaces, or even entire cities from scratch. Good luck for the rest of the campaign!
