by Startacus Admin
If you are an app developer, a competition recently launched by Vodafone ought to be of interest. Now in its’ second year, the Smart Accessibility Awards are run with the support of AGE Platform Europe and the European Disability Forum. The premise behind the awards is to discover and award new smartphone apps that are targeted toward the needs of older people and those with disabilities.
The Vodafone Foundation will award the best smartphone app in 4 distinct areas:
Social Participation
This refers to apps which help users to become more involved in today’s society and help them benefit from using new technologies, regardless of their age and/or capacity. The underlying aim is to help everyone access the web and social media through smartphones
Independent Living
This category relates to apps which help users with everyday tasks - things such as washing, or opening a door easily and safely - things which can help them live more independently
Mobility
The mobility category refers to applications which enable users to travel freely and safely no matter what kind of transport system they would like to use. It also relates to the use of GPS and locations apps which can help guide people in places that are unfamiliar
Wellbeing
The criteria for this category is for applications which improve the users’ health and overall feeling of wellbeing
Worthy categories indeed, one and all. If you’ve got an idea for an app that could address one of this areas, time to get working on it! All entries must be received by noon on 15th October 2012 with the final being held on 16th November 2012 where the winner of each category will receive a prize of €50,000 each.
