Alder Hey and L Marks Launch Startup Collaboration Programme

by Startacus Admin
The inaugural Alder Hey Innovation Lab accelerator programme opens for applications from innovative startups with solutions to help Alder Hey provide exceptional support to its patients and their families
Fantastic news from Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust with the launch of Alder Hey Innovation Lab, its first startup accelerator programme which is being run in partnership with corporate innovation specialists, L Marks and sponsored by DPD and Regatta.
Recognised as a world leader in children's healthcare and research, Alder Hey has a state-of-the-art children’s hospital in addition to a brand new research, innovation and education centre where it aims to deliver outstanding care, develop leading-edge research, provide the highest standards of paediatric training and accelerate the impact of game changing innovation for children and young people.
In a bid to further support this work, the Alder Hey Innovation Lab is aiming to discover innovative solutions which can support Alder Hey in providing exceptional support to its children and young people, and their families.
Participating startups will have the opportunity to test and validate their solutions and will have direct access to stakeholders within the Trust to help support them.
The lab will be made up of two sprints:
- a 10-week sprint with a focus on clinical validation and
- a 4-week commercial validation sprint where sponsor companies will provide hands on support to plan the expansion of solutions across Alder Hey and beyond
For the programme’s first sprint, they are seeking startups that are innovating in two key categories:
- Bringing UX to the patient experience; Gamification & the child WOW factor
This category is aimed at startups that can leverage the technology of today to engage children throughout their journey at Alder Hey, in addition to startups with simple and streamlined solutions that WOW children and young people by being inclusive and supporting the patient / family experience as a whole.
- Hospital Optimisation; Rethinking the end-to-end journey
Within this category, startups with innovative approaches to reimagine the entire end-to-end operational journey with a patient, clinician and staff-centric approach in addition to startups with solutions that are simple and easy to implement and can help support patient management, workflow management and clinician support.
Future categories within 2 more sprints of the Innovation Lab will include:
- Future of training; Haptics and simulation to create clinicians of the future
- Non-invasive Diagnostics; Sensors and wearables to test and monitor
- Surgical Safety; Eliminating human error and no never events
- Wildcard
Further info on the programme can be found on the Alder Hey Innovation Lab website and if you’re interested in applying, you can do so until 23:59 GMT on Friday, 25th September 2021.
Best of luck to all who do!
