Alastair Humphreys Microadventures

by Startacus Admin
Alastair Humphreys Microadventures - The premise is simple. You do not need to fly to the other side of the planet to have an adventure.
Alastair Humphreys is an adventurer, writer, author....self starter. Previously named as a National Geographic Adventurer of the Year, Alastair is not adverse to a little bravery, risk and daily adventure.
This year, rather than travel the width and breadth of the world to find that adventure, Alastair is setting off on a series of Microadventures around the UK.
As Alastair explains on his website:
“Adventure is only a state of mind. Adventure is stretching yourself; mentally, physically or culturally. It is about doing what you do not normally do, pushing yourself hard and doing it to the best of your ability.
And if that is true then adventure is all around us, at all times. Even during hard financial times such as these. Times, I believe, when getting out into the wild are more enjoyable, invigorating and important than ever. I am going to spend the year chasing adventure close to home. I will not go on overseas expeditions. I will explore my own country, and I will seek out short, interesting, rewarding adventures right here on my doorstep.”
From climbing a mountain, to sleeping on a hill, to swimming in a river and camping in the wilds, Alastair is showing us all that there is no need to travel all the way to Australia, India or suchlike - adventure is on our doorstep if we so choose it. He has a number of wonderful short videos to make the point and we have highlighted one below for you to watch!
Now don’t get me wrong we’re not suggesting you do all of the above (but feel free if you like!) but as Alastair highlights, “adventure is stretching yourself; mentally, physically or culturally. It is about doing what you do not normally do, pushing yourself hard and doing it to the best of your ability”
And so as Startacus is all about doing something with that grand idea, that hobby or that business you wish you could just start - we reckon many of our Startacus members are perhaps having microadventures of their own every day. On that note - check out our article on Follow the Brown Signs for a litte more inspiration!
Perhaps you are checking out the Startacus site for the first time and have a great idea, or perhaps you are seasoned entrepreneur with your own tale to tell, but like Alastair Humphreys, stretch yourself to do that thing to the best of your ability that has been staring you in the face and right on your own doorstep too...
