AirPortr - luggage check-in made easy

by Startacus Admin
AirPortr - the London based startup that's fast tracking airline passengers and their luggage between
the world's cities
The worst part of any trip is the airport. Crying children, garbled announcements that leave you wondering ‘was that my flight?’, overpriced food and drink, and queues. The queue for the plane is unavoidable unless you borrow a small child to get you boarding first; the queue to stand in the machine that looks through your clothes is unavoidable unless you borrow a pilot’s uniform; but the queue to check in your bags is the worst.
You turn up two hours early so that you can spend 20 minutes shuffling your bags forward 6 inches at a time, checking you definitely have your passport at every other shuffle, and then just as you’re called forward, your brat delightful child decides to make a break for freedom.
It’s enough to elicit cries of ‘If only a London-based startup would establish a business with luggage check-ins at its core to solve this problem for me!’…
London-based startup AirPortr has heard your anguished cries! To save time and stress, you can have your luggage picked up from your London doorstep and checked in for you. No more queues! Except...you know, the other ones. All you will need to do now is turn up and go straight through to the departure lounge. On the other side, your bag will be there waiting at baggage reclaim as usual. Alternatively, if you are flying to London, AirPortr will deliver your bags straight to your address. This is, of course, particularly useful for families who have more important things to deal with.
Currently, this service is available only for passengers flying either to or from London, and only those using either British Airways or American Airlines, but the startup already has plans to expand beyond. To this end, AirPortr have just raised £5.3m in funding from investors that include Stobart Group, Force Over Mass Capital, and Hargreave Hale.
Given the stress that comes with the seemingly simple act of checking in luggage, it’s not surprising that the startup has quickly become popular, with close to 60,000 bags checked in with them in the past couple of years. We think they’ll continue to fly high going forward.
