Accelerator Academy - The Chosen Ten

by Startacus Admin
It’s no secret that here at Startacus we are a bit (ok, a lot) obsessed with innovative tech startups and the amazing new products and services they painstakingly mastermind for our enjoyment. A few weeks ago we featured Accelerator Academy as it made a final drive for startups to apply to its intensive programme aimed at digital entrepreneurs. We’ve waited patiently ever since for the announcement of the 10 lucky startups and I’m happy as a pig in a campervan to announce that the wait is finally over!
We simply can’t resist the opportunity to introduce 10 new tech start-ups…we are really spoiling you today.
The Lucky Candidates:
Audio Wings - These clever folks are cutting out the middle man by pioneering smart headphones which store music and connect wirelessly to the internet and sync with Last.fm, Soundcloud or Spotify.
Better Than Paper - A full service digital agency which ensures a company’s online presence is as effective as it can possibly be. They specialise in the creation of apps and web pages for mobile devices which make the most of this rapidly growing area of the marketplace.
Crumbtrail - With the tagline ‘It’s your phonebook but better’ this free app is intended as an innovative new way to manage the contact lists on your mobile devices. The simple genius of it is that rather than listing your contacts in alphabetical order (as is the standard) this app provides you with context of your relationship with the person such as where you met them and other significant details.
Cypsel - Ever wanted to learn something creative like art or music but didn’t know where find an instructor? Cypsel is an online community where artists create a profile to make themselves more visible to people searching for their skills...something of a LinkedIn for creative types!
Marca ME - An app which turns the lock screen on your phone into an advertisement for a theme of your choice 2 times a day for 1 week, at the end of which you will be rewarded with special offers from the brands you’ve seen… a creative evolution of online advertising!
nCube - Is a home energy management platform to help homeowners reduce their energy usage through intelligently controlling their home and the electrical products in it. It makes it incredibly simple to ensure that idle products, heating systems and lighting waste as little energy as possible.
Recibo - Save paper and never lose a receipt again. This eco-friendly web app replaces traditional paper receipts with a digital version which contains all the same information and can be easily arranged and accessed online. The receipt is transferred to the phone via QR, barcode scanning or NFC.
TheFoodMarket.com - An online marketplace which provides a connection between merchants who sell food products not usually available supermarket shelves and customers who wish to buy them.
Thumbtags - The latest thing in digital marketing, this clever system turns online images into shoppable catalogues. Basically if you see a product you like, you can hover over it to get information on it including where to buy it, similar products and cheaper alternatives.
Wide IO - A platform that helps software companies to incorporate the best algorithms into their new product. This one sounds very exciting albeit very complicated and fiddly...so rather than than crawl through a description which would probably be wrong anyway I shall direct you to the Accelerator Academy webpage so you can have a look for yourself.
Quite a glut of startups we think you’ll agree. We will be keeping a close eye over the coming months to see how they all get on and of course we will bring you an update of how to apply for the next Accelerator Academy programme closer to the time.
