About Us

by Richard Walsh
We believe that lots of people have great ideas. People just like you.
We know though that sometimes it’s not always that easy to take an idea and turn it into something real. That’s why we created Startacus - the self start society.
It’s a community of startups, entrepreneurs, creatives, dreamers, innovators and self starters - all sorts of people with ideas and businesses all doing their own thing. It’s a place to learn, share and connect with the people, places and services that will help bring ideas to life. It’s a place filled with the information, support and inspiration to help make starting, sustaining or growing a business as easy as possible.
If you’ve got an idea, you've a startup business or you think you can help, it’s a place where you should be...
(Watch our wee explainer video below that attemps to visualise all of that in our first ever video!!)
Meet the Team...well some of them anyway!
Alastair Cameron (Co-Founder of the Ship)
A Media degree, an ‘accidental’ but enjoyable career in commercial recruitment, management, redundancy and now this! Something I truly love! When redundancy happened for me, I kinda embraced it! I know it’s a little cliché, but it was probably the best career decision that was ever made for me!
Co-Founder at Startacus - Also Interested in p/t consultancy work specifically in the startup sector. I have strong experience in chairing and hosting events, panel discussions, startup pitch competitions, judging at startup events, facilitating startup events and socials, key note talks, and offering consultancy support to startups and co-founders, both in person and over Skype.

Eoin O’Hara (Jack-of-All and Master of Some)
After graduating in 2010 I too worked in commercial recruitment for a year - although unlike Alastair it wasn’t too enjoyable! A succession of temp jobs followed - I’ve done everything from working in a hospital and an estate agency through to working in a burger van (none of which was particularly thrilling although the free burgers in the van were definitely a plus!). I started at Startacus.net on a 6 month graduate training placement and have never looked back. It’s the first place I have ever worked where using your brain and creativity is actually encouraged.
Philip Mullan (Tech Maestro)
I might be the newest addition to the team, but I’ve made my presence felt! I’m a Computer Science grad and as you’d expect I love all things tech. I’m putting my own stamp on things on the Startacus site and my mission is all about making things better for you guys! The self start society would be nothing without you good folk after all!
